Software Engineer - Platform
We are looking for a Software Engineer who wants to build and ship new features that quickly reach customers, on top of an engine that already runs at scale. You join our platform team, which owns several live domains that our customers depend on every day. The foundations are solid and well maintained, so your time goes into new use cases and features rather than firefighting. Whether you have a couple of years of experience or a few more, we would like to see your application.
What's in it for you?
Hear directly from the people using what you build. Customer feedback feeds straight back into the roadmap, and you work on features and product decisions that matter to end users.
Build on a system with real scale behind it. The event system spans 8 domains, exposes 20+ event types as webhooks, and powers 10 configurable alert types for our end users - currently ~20k active configurations triggering ~200k events every weekday. The team owns 8+ public APIs end to end, crucial for customers' day-to-day business.
Learn from experts who share. You’ll join a talkative team of experienced domain experts who love discussing technical topics.
Grow with support. Scoped, well-defined assignments to start, senior colleagues pairing and reviewing your work, and shared ownership of keeping things running.
See your work ship. We favour small, frequent releases over long project cycles, so what you build lands in production fast.
Who are you ideally?
You are a backend developer with strong Java skills who is at home on live production systems.
Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and REST APIs, in particular building and running your own services in a modern cloud-based microservice and event-driven architecture.
You are comfortable working on live production systems with high data volumes and migration paths, keeping quality, observability, reliability, and performance in mind.
You enjoy talking tech: you like discussing technical topics widely, learning, and listening in on topics not always directly related to your own tasks.
You are motivated by incremental, high-quality delivery on products that are already live, bringing a fresh perspective that helps rework existing infrastructure where it is holding us back, and you treat the tools already in our platform as solid building blocks.
Nice to have: Flink and stateful processing (or the willingness to learn it, since it is widely used here), relational databases, and Grafana and Prometheus, our “bread and butter”.
You embrace AI as part of how you engineer. From prototyping through to production, you use AI tools as an integrated part of your workflow, not as a shortcut but as a force multiplier. That said, this isn't the main thing we're hiring for: curiosity and a willingness to use it well matter more than deep prior experience.
Don't meet every single requirement? No worries, this is what we're looking for ideally. If you're excited about this role but your background doesn't align perfectly with every point above, we encourage you to apply.
Primary responsibilities
Improve, extend and run the live domains our team owns, including telemetry storage and APIs, the event system, and the alerting engine, without disrupting production.
Build and run your own services, with migration paths when architecture or data formats need to change.
Work closely with the internal teams building products on top of the platform you help shape.
Keep the platform reliable and observable at high data volumes.
Our hiring process
Don’t waste your time writing the perfect cover letter. We want you to create an impact that matters - and that’s not in the cover letter.
Initial phone conversation with a colleague from our P&T team.
Virtual meet and greet with your potential new leader and someone from the team, so you’ll get to know the role and team better.
Assignment-specific interview with the hiring manager and a lead engineer from the team. We want to give you a real insight into the work. You’ll receive a case to prepare ahead of the interview and present to relevant colleagues - people you’ll also work closely with in the role.
If needed, we will obtain references from former employers and conduct background checks at relevant levels.
Offer presentation and walk-through.
